My Little Helper Stitching

I was watching my children play in the pool, while enjoying a cup of tea and doing a bit of embroidery. You know, squeezing creative tasks into tiny, much appreciated intervals in-between chores and other work related matters. So a short break - but it didn't last long. When my youngest son saw me embroidering, he wanted to join in! He dried off, jumped on the table, grabbed my work and started where I had left off.

Now it is very lucky that I enjoy doing the type of embroidery where you do not follow a pattern, but just "free-style-it" and it is ok it looks uneven. I actually like it uneven. So I stayed calm, gave a few instructions and he got going. He actually followed the outline of what I had done and it did not look bad at all. He enjoyed it and has since begun embroidering his own design after one of his own drawings, which will be awesome!

When working with children, I have found that the most interesting stuff happens when you step back and don't interfere in what they are creating. Sometimes it can be very difficult to do, especially when things get really messy or you think you have to save the situation! But the results sure outweigh the distress of restraining oneself and the time spent cleaning up afterwards.

The Cat is Out of the Bag.

Some time ago I did a small workshop for some school girls. The aim was for them to have fun while making a quirky cat and at the same time learn to use their own sewing machines. It was a set task and all the materials I had prepared beforehand. It was an excellent day.

What amazed me the most was that they were so set on the task and totally concentrated for the full time it took to accomplish it, which was about 5 hours! And once they were done - they immediately bonded with and loved their little soft toy!

So good to see their effort and how proud they and their mum's were of the result! And I was too...

An Inspirational Day of Embroidery

I did a Creative Embroidery Workshop in June, as a trial run of what The Createry want to offer on a regular basis. I am still working on the programs for coming workshops and hope to have them displayed on my blog soon. So if you would like to spend a fun and inspiring day with embroidery please stay posted.

The June workshop was such a great day. We got working on different projects inspired by mandalas. Have a look at some of the work – just beautiful! This day was just as inspiring for me and the feedback was so encouraging. So thank you ladies!

Roller Skating Fun

Do you like my roller skating dog?

My son Johannes had a roller skating party to go to the other day. He had never been skating before, but I have. As a child in Denmark, we used to skate on the lakes and on Vejle fjord when it froze over in winter. We spent hours and hours racing around playing tag; or us girls would pretend to be ice skating princesses and sometimes we even brought out a cassette player, so we could swirl around to music. We would continue the fun until our feet and cheeks were almost frozen!
So when my son was struggling to get up and stay up on his skates, I thought I might go in the skating ring with him and give him a hand. After some wobbling it all started to come back to me and soon I had no time to help him, but was flying around the ring myself enjoying the wind in my hair! I had such a great time at this birthday party for 8 year olds! 1.5 hour workout on skates. Eventually Johannes got the hang of it and by the end of the two hours he wanted to buy his own skates! Great! We have found a new hobby together and will definitely be going again soon.

Blog Design

Could this be a picture for my "Home" tab?

As a "blogging novice" it is very hard to work out the look and functionality of a blog. And yes you can set up a blog in 1-2-3, but how does it actually work?
I want it to have an interesting design, so people actually would like to take a closer look. What I have done so far is just to get started and then I am hoping for on-going improvement and that I work it all out (ha ha!) as I get into it. I am reading lots of posts like "the 10 things I wish I knew when I started a blog" and on-line tutorials on You Tube. Amazing amounts of useful and un-useful information!

Taking the Plunge

This is it, taking the plunge, jumping on the bandwagon – I want to try blogging! I absolutely love creative, handmade beauties with a story; actually I am passionate about being creative and sharing inspiration. And as everyone else I need more hours in the day, but I do try to work with what I have and live life in a more simplistic and mindful way - I find that using my hands to create beautiful things is one way to achieve this. It makes me happy and keeps me true to what I love and who I am. I would love to share my passion, so if you are interested in embroidery, sewing, crafts, baking, photography, printing... or other creative wonders, stay tuned. My biggest wish is to inspire other people – it is huge I know! Anyway, start small, I do lots of projects and different workshops and will talk about it all here. I hope you will enjoy dropping by from time to time and let me know what you think. And to all the experienced bloggers out there, I would love to hear from you!
